Dog of the Month - July
Meet Samantha "Sam"
also know as "AFJ Sweet Baby Girl Samantha"
Thanks to Marion and Don Belyea
Samantha, a Labrador Retriever, was born January 8, 2008, in Laconia, New Hampshire. She was one of ten black Labs. The breeder only bred mom twice and Samantha is from the first litter. The breeder put all ten in wicker baskets with their names in front. We could view them on the Internet.
Sam's mom and dad were on the premises when we went to see the pups. Each pup had a nail polish mark on them and a cheat sheet to identify them. Labrador Retrievers are great pets. They love the water and were bred to be friendly companions. They are in the working dog class and they earned their keep as fishermen's helper, hauling nets, fetching ropes and retrieving fish from the chill North Atlantic. They are good natured, hard workers and considered America's most popular breed. They have a variety of tasks they perform from working as retrievers for hunters and assistance dogs for handicapped. They are competitive in dog shows and also work in search and rescue, and drug sniffers. They are warm, intelligent and loyal companions.
This is Samantha as a puppy:
She loves Max and Lucky and Bear and her new friend Blue. We hope too meet a lot more friends .
:
She has a thing when we go into the shower - she steals the wash cloth and rolls around on it.
Samantha has meant so much to us and has given us so much joy. We will be sad when she joins our other special Angel "pups" in Rainbow Bridge:
They are our friends
partners and defenders
you are their life and leaders
They will be yours faithfully and true
till
the last beat of their heart.
Dog of the Month of June
Meet Max
Thanks to Diane Ferguson
This is our dog Max and we adopted him in North Carolina about 5 years ago. He had been tied to the door of a PetCo in Winston Salem and someone had cut off his tail.
When we first brought Max home he would not even bark and was afraid of everything including parked cars and large trucks. Most things he has gotten used to even though thunder and lightening will send him to a closet even with his thunder coat.
We worked everyday with Max and he had training, agility courses and became a Good Citizen dog. He is our best friend and we take him everywhere he is invited. He loves kids and most dogs and has established that the front door belongs to him and only him. He loves company and thinks they are only here to see him, which of course makes perfect sense, right?
I have been involved with the RDOG3 because I believe that Max and all his friends, those he knows and those he has not met yet deserve a place to socialize just like us.
